Information Management Systems

ComputersIMS students learn and enhance information management skills including preparation of documents using computers and other modern office equipment, filing, telephone usage, mail handling, desktop publishing, manual and computerized accounting, web page designing, and graphic manipulation. Training includes internet usage, computer support, and computer applications including word processing, managing databases, manipulating spreadsheets, preparing presentations, and designing graphics. Students develop the personal characteristics that employers seek in job candidates and may participate in on-the-job training in an actual business office. IMS training can lead to such jobs as administrative assistant, medical office or legal office assistant, entry-level accounting assistant, and web page or graphic design careers. Students have the option of being involved in Business Professionals of America, Delta College Business Division Skill Day competition, and/or Michigan Industrial Technology Education Society, as well as participating in community service projects and becoming Microsoft Office Specialist certified.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Information Management Systems program is to provide students with the essential skills to enter, compete, and advance in the workplace through pertinent and challenging educational experiences.
